Exciting News! Re: Online Learning

Dear Parents,

I have really enjoyed getting in touch with you this week and I am very happy to hear you are all doing well.

I am very excited to let you know that starting next week, Monday, April 6, 2020, we will be ready to begin our online learning journey.  Watch your inbox for an email later this week that will explain everything you need to know, including how to access the online class and how to complete and submit assignments.

Furthermore, starting next week and every Monday after that, you can expect a weekly email that outlines the week’s assignments that will be found in the classroom to be completed for that week.

As always, we are here to support you as you start this online learning journey, so please contact me through email if you need some support.

A message for students

Dear Students,

Check your Google Drive under "Shared with Me" for a special letter from me to you!  You can use this as a prompt for your journal entry... I hope to hear back from you soon!  If you forgot your password or are having trouble logging in, ask your parents to send me an email for help.

Enjoy!

Mrs. Hussain

Updates!

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope you are all doing well and staying safe and healthy.

Please continue to check the classroom blog for important updates related to classwork.  For the most up-to-date information about the operation of schools, please check the school website.

As per the e-mail you should have received from Saddle Ridge yesterday, CBE has put together an educational webpage that offers a variety of ideas and resources to support literacy, numeracy, and wellness at home.  Here is the link to that page again: https://cbe.ab.ca/programs/curriculum/learning-at-home/Pages/k-6.aspx

Also, remember, reading daily for at least 30 minutes is the single most important piece of “homework” students at this age can do!  Raz-Kids is a great place to read a variety of books online!  The CBE webpage of resources also provides a username and pin to access even more books through the Calgary Public Library resources, Tumblebooks, Starfall and more!

In addition, if your child would like to work on their science-waste project (which is on Google Slides) – they are more than welcome to!

Also, don’t forget, there’s always Prodigy to practice your math! This is also a great time to make sure each kid knows their math facts (up to 9x9 at least)!

Also, you can remind your kids to continue to do their home writing while they are at home.  Write a journal entry daily, do a reader’s response or do a free write.  Remember, if your child does not have their home writing book with them, they can also write on any paper, or even on Google Docs! Just remember to share with me at nohussain@educbe.ca.  To get them started, tell your child to be on the lookout (in their Google Drive) for a special letter from Mrs. Hussain – their first entry can be a response to me!

Remember, we will have more information to share after the March break.  In the meantime, please keep informed by staying current with the class and school blogs.

Thank you and have a wonderful break!

Mrs. Hussain

Updates from Sara

Hello All!

I hope you enjoyed the concert last night!  We worked very hard on it for like two months!

We are also doing a project.  Our project is that we are trying to stop waste going to landfills, so we have to reduce, reuse, recycle!

In math, we are doing multiplication and division.  One strategy Mrs. Hussain showed us was the box method.  The box method is where you separate the numbers by place value to multiply and then add up all the numbers [partial products], like this:

Otherwise everything is going great!

Have a good day!
