Updates from Mrs. Hussain

Dear Parents,

We have been so busy practicing for our Remembrance Day Assembly - we really hope you can make it to school on Friday, November 8th!

Please continue to send in recyclables (such as toilet paper rolls, cardboard boxes, etc.) for our building unit in science.  We should be ready to present something by Halloween!

In our social inquiry, we are nearly done our rotations learning about the different resources in Alberta and learning all about how we are affected by those resources.  We will be putting together our final projects now to get ready to present them at our Celebration of Learning on the 15th of November!

A video slideshow of our trip to Telus Spark is now posted on the gallery page!  Make sure to check it out!

Please continue to remind your child to read every day for a minimum of 30 minutes!

Updates from Trinity, Seerat and Rachael

Updates this week!

In inquiry, we are split up into 3 different groups and we are learning about the different natural resources in Alberta. In the oil and gas group, which is with Mrs. Hussain, we made a simple toothpaste which we were then able to modify and make our own by adding different things to make it minty or cinnamony. The natural resources that we are learning about are forestry, oil, gas, and coal, and livestock and crops.

In Science, we are learning about simple machines and how you have to build something difficult just to accomplish a simple task! Some simple machines we are learning about are levers, wheels and axles, and pulleys.

***If you have any recyclables at home (cardboard, plastic, etc.) please bring to school from Oct 14-29 to help assist us in building.***

In guided reading, we are learning visual note-taking!

Trinity

Last week might have been the most fun week of all! We went to Telus Spark! We did lots of fun things like building a simple machine and playing outside at the park. We also discovered new and awesome things like opening a door without using your hands and other cool things! I love playing in and feeling the rainbow sand pit. It was really fun when we went on the field trip.

Goodbye Parents,

A message from Aliza, Trinity, and Ms. Vanleeuwen

A message from Aliza

At school, we have been doing lots of fun things.  Let me tell you about the choir.  The choir is the best thing because it’s a group that sings all together. We’ve learned how to sing something very special for the whole school – we will even sing in French!  I can’t wait for us to perform for the whole school.

A message from Trinity

On Wednesday, October 9th, 2019, we went to Telus Spark Science Center.  We all got to make complicated simple machines like those desgined by Rube Goldberg. We made things with ramps, tubes, levers, and all sorts of simple machines.  At the end, we explored the differen exhibits.  We also went to the park behind the Science Center where I went on the swings.  The bus ride there and back was short and bumpy.  It was so fun and I really enjoyed it!

A message from Ms. Vanleeuwen

This week we have been learning more about simple machines and on our field trip, we explored Rube Goldberg machines.  We will be starting an inquiry project on simple machines.  Our task is to design a Halloween Haunted House with scare contraptions using simple machines.  If you have any recyclables at home (cardboard, plastic, etc.) please bring to school from Oct 14-29 to help assist us in building.

A message from Seerat, Radhika, and Ravneet…

This week, we have been doing many fun activities!

While learning about wheels and levers in science this week, we made pulleys.  First, we watched a really cool video about pulleys. Then we attached the pulleys to our chairs and learned how they work.  It was so much fun!

Yesterday, we also did a math test.  It was based on what we were learning.  Many people found the last question very hard!

In guided reading, we are learning how to read nonfiction text and we are practicing taking visual notes. During snack, we draw quick sketches during Read Aloud to practice and improve our sketching skills.  It is so much fun to use our markers and highlighters for our visual notes!

We hope you enjoyed reading this week’s blog post!

A message from the teacher…

Home reading was due today. If you did not hand it in, please do so on Monday.

Wednesday is our field trip – remember to dress according to the weather and bring a packed lunch (no money).  If you are a parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle and you have police clearance and you can volunteer, please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible!

Science: Learn more about simple machines while playing these games:

Math: We have finished our unit on patterns and now we are going to start numbers to 10, 000!

Next week is a short week with no school on Friday.

Have an awesome weekend and see you on Monday!
